| So here it is…..the long-awaited self-titled album from 'The Manze' recorded by Mark Elliott at EMP. An eleven song collection of original material, written and arranged by the band - this is a diverse lp in sound and style… Incorporating aspects of funk, folk, blues and rock all ably held together by the distinctive voice of singer, Ben Eve and guitarist Ewan Cooper's ever fluid playing style. | ||||
|
Uplifting opener 'Sometimes' and 'Hotter than sun' (both highlights of the band's live appearances) give way to the more sombre 'Over' and the brooding 'Cruel intention', before the finishing flourish of 'Cliff'.
The true high points of the record however, are surely the Coldplay-esque
'All eyes on me' and nod to rock balladry 'Piece of me'.
The album also contains a reworked version of early single 'Girl like you' (previously recorded at Mushroom Studios 2002).
The Manze assure us they will be spending 2004 gigging in and around Olde London Towne and native Essex - be sure and catch them if you can.
Stop press... The Manze are currently on the lookout for a band-manager to take them on to bigger an better things……any interested parties out there…? Let us know. |
